The stone-built market town of Masham is a five minute drive and provides local shopping and eating places. Connoisseurs of real ale will enjoy visits to the well known Theakston and Black Sheep breweries in the town. A thriving craft community is also based in Masham. A day spent walking the Dales can be rounded off with a meal at one of the many local inns, offering excellent local fayre.

Sporting activities are available with a wide range of golf courses, sport and coarse fishing, mountain biking, horse riding and swimming close to Charlcot.

A great family day can be spent at nearby Lightwater Valley Leisure Park where white knuckle rides can be combined with high quality famous names shopping.

The Lake District, North Yorkshire Moors, Whitby and Scarborough can all be reached for memorable away days. Sightseeing and shopping trips to nearby York and Harrogate are the favourite of many visitors.

Closer to hand is The Yorkshire Dales National Park, characterised by the stone walls of the valleys and striking heather moorland.

At the entrance to Charlcot is the start of a wonderful traffic free bridleway, which takes in far reaching views of Wensleydale. The walk follows the River Ure upstream and brings you to the grounds of the ruined Cistercian abbey at Jervaulx.
