Abbots Thorn, Carlton, Coverdale in the northern Yorkshire Dales  is a 200 year old, traditional stone-built Dales house, which has been lovingly converted into a warm and comfortable place to stay. 

There are three guest rooms, two having en-suite facilities. All rooms feature country pine furniture and doors and full central heating with individual thermostats, to ensure your comfort even on the coldest of days. 

Each room has a hospitality tray with tea, both Indian and fruit, coffee, biscuits and fresh milk, together with a colour television. 

All rooms have a window with a seat so that you can enjoy the stunning views of Coverdale that unfold from our sunny south-facing location.

In the heart of 'Herriot Country' and within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Carlton is Coverdale's principal village and has approximately 80 inhabitants. It has its own pub and is an ideal base for walking, touring or just relaxing.

Leyburn is the nearest town to Abbots Thorn and is a bustling market town with a wide variety of shops, restaurants and inns. Middleham, about four miles away, is known as the race horse capital of the north and they can often be seen going through their paces on the moor.

After a comfortable nights sleep, a full country breakfast featuring traditional local produce awaits you in the informal dining room. For those with lighter appetites the breakfast menu offers various alternatives.

Indulge yourself and try an evening meal - four courses, plus coffee, mints and complimentary liqueurs. The food is home-cooked and wholesome, using fresh, local produce whenever possible. Special diets are catered for with pleasure.

'Abbots Thorn is not licensed but please feel free to bring your own wine and we will do the rest.'

After dinner relax in our comfortable oak beamed guest lounge in front of an open fire. A bountiful supply of books, games and jigsaws can be found but why not just relax and indulge in conversation.
