Acorn Cottage is an old stone built cottage in the small village of Lofthouse 6 miles from Pateley Bridge in Nidderdale. Downstairs, the cottage has a kitchen diner with table and chairs for 6 people and a fully equipped kitchen including a microwave, dishwasher and washer dryer. There is a large lounge with open fire (logs and coal provided), and a TV with DVD player. The stone (carpeted) stairs lead up to the bathroom, which has a bath with shower. There are three bedrooms, one double, one twin and one single. Heating is by electric storage heaters and is included in the price. Outside there is a patio with seating. A private space for one car is available behind the cottage. Additional parking is in the public car park metres from the house. Local Area and Attractions The village of Lofthouse is located in Nidderdale in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Dining and Food Within a few yards of the cottage is the Crown pub which serves large meals daily. How Stean Gorge and the pub at Middlesmoor also serve food and are very near. The acclaimed Yorke Arms is 2 miles away. Throughout the Dales are many other excellent pubs. In picturesque Pateley Bridge, 6 miles away, are all the shops you need, and some will deliver take aways etc. Included are two butchers and small specialist shops, such as 'The Oldest Sweet Shop in England', plus shops selling home cooked and local produce. You can order a paper from the paper shop and national superstores will deliver orders over £50, if you pre-order online. Activities and Places to Visit Nidderdale is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is a sheltered green valley with beautiful views of rolling moorland scattered with sheep and divided by dry stone walls. There are many pretty villages to visit with rivers and waterfalls, craggy outcrops and underground caverns. Nidderdale is wonderful for walking, bird watching, horse riding, fishing, cycling or just relaxing in the pure fresh air. Natural places of particular interest near the cottage include; How Stean Gorge, Stump Cross Caverns, and Brimham Rocks. Other attractions nearby include Fountains Abbey and Studley Deer Park. Ripon with its Cathedral and for the children there is a funfare -Lightwater Valley-. Knaresborough has its famous Castle and market day with town crier. There is also boating on the River Nidd. Within 40 minutes is Harrogate, renowned for Betty's Tearooms, the Baths and arcade shopping. York is within daily travelling distance with its many historical buildings and activities. There are so many other things to see in the Yorkshire Dales, including magnificent scenery, bustling market towns and many interesting castles and abbeys. |
