Ashmore
House is an
imposing, stone-built period house standing in a prominent position in the
lovely village of Aldborough -St- John, near Richmond.
The well-furnished house sleeps
5/6 and
is well equipped with everything you might need to make your stay as
comfortable as possible. It adjoins the home of the owners, John and Anne, who
would be pleased to offer any help or advice you require while you are
there. Oil-fired central heating, logs and coal for the open fire, bed
linen and towels are all included in the charge.
Ashmore House is ideally situated for
exploring many of the attractions of the Yorkshire Dales and surrounding area.
It is just 5 miles from the
historic town of Richmond, the gateway to Swaledale and 8 miles from
Barnard Castle and the Bowes Museum. If you travel a few miles further
into Teesdale you can visit High Force waterfall, the highest waterfall in
England.
As the village is only a few miles from Scotch Corner and the Al,
Durham, Beamish Museum and Newcastle are within easy reach, and the Lake
District and North York moors are also easily accessible for a day's
outing.
The village of Aldborough itself,
boasts one of the largest village greens in England, at one end of which
is the village cricket club and a children's play area. It is an ideal area for an evening stroll or exercising the
dog. A small beck runs
alongside the green crossed by the road bridge and three pedestrian
bridges.
The
village pub, the Stanwick Arms, overlooks one part of the village green
and is renowned for excellent food. Many other nearby villages also have
pubs with very good reputations for both food and drink; John and Anne
would be pleased to give you further details.
