Character Cottages in Coverdale

"Get away from it all in the peace and tranquillity of East Close in Braidley, Coverdale, the Hidden Dale - cottages to sleep 4, 5 or 9!"

East Close is 200 years old and was a working farm until the 1960s. It is in the hamlet of Braidley, in beautiful high Coverdale. There are 2 self-catering cottages at East Close.

Both cottages are charming, well equipped and comfortable, with beamed ceilings and spectacular views of Coverdale:

  • The Farmhouse which has 3 bedrooms to sleep 5, and an open fire in the sitting room.
  • The Shippan, which has 2 bedrooms to sleep 4.
  • The Farmhouse and Shippan have an adjoining door so can be used as one property, to sleep 9, if required, which is ideal for families holidaying together or groups of friends.
  • One well behaved pet is welcome.

There is also a barn, in which bikes can be securely stored, with a games room above which is accessed by a steep stair ladder, with snooker and table tennis. East Close is set in one acre of land which includes a sunny garden and a paddock, which is a traditional Dales meadow.

Braidley is situated on the scenic pass midway between the busy market town of Leyburn in Wensleydale and the popular Wharfedale village of Kettlewell, where the film ‘Calendar Girls' was made.

It is a very quiet, peaceful, rural retreat, with a very rich and varied flora and fauna. The bird life is particularly noteworthy. This is wonderful walking country and the public footpath from Nidderdale to Bishopdale passes close by.

The local pub in the pretty village of Horsehouse serves food, and is 1 mile away.

‘The Forbidden Corner', which is 6 miles away, is great fun for all the family. It is a unique labyrinth of tunnels, chambers, follies and surprises set in the gardens of Tupgill Park, which is explored to solve a puzzle.

8 miles away, is Middleham, which has a well preserved mediaeval castle, of great historical interest as Richard III, the last Yorkist king was born there.  Middleham is also famous for its race horses and they can be seen exercising on a daily basis on "the gallops" on Middleham Moor.
