Situated in
the heart of Wensleydale looking south to Bainbridge about half
a mile, and approximately one mile from Askrigg, Coleby Hall is
a 17th century gabled farmhouse sleeping 4/5 with stone mullioned
windows and some original features still intact including oak beams.
At
the centre of a working farm, Coleby is divided into two houses
with the west end being to let. Your entrance through the main doorway
comprises an original oak door which leads into a large hall, with
period furniture befitting the house.
Off the hall
is a spacious lounge with inglenook coal fire, a coloured television
and comfortable chairs.
We
now have oil fired central heating throughout the house, however,
coal is provided so that you can use the fire as well. The kitchen
is also a large room with coal fire if required and featuring a
Victorian stone sink. There is an electric cooker, microwave, fridge,
deep freeze, washing machine and all the usual kitchen equipment
i.e. crockery, pans, kettle, iron etc. A small porch leads out to
the side garden and coal house and is just the right place for leaving
walking boots.
A
stone spiral staircase leads from the hall up to two large bedrooms,
one with a double bed where you have a good view of cows coming
in for morning milking (in summer) or going out in the evening.
The other bedroom faces south with lots of sun and has three single
beds. Duvets and linen are provided for the beds. The bathroom
upstairs has a washbasin, toilet and bath with an electric power
shower over it. Towels are not provided. A cot and high chair
is available.
A
large garden and lawn in front of the house looks down a tree-lined
drive which apart from the day to day working of the farm is peaceful
and quiet. There is a more private garden from the side door with
an uninterrupted view across fields and the Pennines and a lovely
quiet spot to enjoy the evening sun.
Here is an ideal
situation for walking and fishing and it is central for driving
around the Yorkshire Dales and its many attractions.
