Walking from Prospect Farm

There is good walking to be enjoyed around Prospect Farm. The three walks detailed below start at Prospect Farm and take you through varying countryside including farmland, meadows and lakes. Within this variety of habitats there is a variety of wildlife. Distances vary from 3/4 - 2 miles.

Carp Lake Walk (1.75 Miles)

  • Grafton Mere - a varied habitat for aquatic plants and animals including Dragonflies.

  • Wild flower meadow.

  • Well managed hedgerows including Hazel, Holly, Blackthorn, Hawthorn.

  • Views of the Hambleton Hills and the White Horse at Kilburn.

  • Interesting field pattern.

Limebar Walk (2 Miles)

  • Mixed hedgerow with a variety of hedgerow trees. Shade loving plants such as ferns.

  • Wetland area.

  • Views across the Vale of York.

  • Grassland with spring and early summer flowers including Cowslips, Orchids, Greater Bell Flower and Devil's-Bit Scabious.

Village Walk (0.75 Mile)

  • Woodland area colonizing former spoil heaps (Sycamore, Wild Cherry, Oak, Ash and Birch).

  • Views to Marton Village.

  • Grassland with interesting mixture of grassland species including the meadow saxifrage (a nationally uncommon species), which can be seen flowering in spring.
