Things To Do

Grassington has 3 pubs which offer bar meals, outdoor seating and various events (quizzes, live jazz etc). Also, Grassington House offers fine dining. There is an Indian resturant and take away and a chip shop. In the daytime Grassington offers a wide range of tea rooms and cafes.

For self catering, you will find everything you need: the award winning butcher selling local meat and his own sausages; a deli for special treats, a baker and a Spar shop. There is an off-license selling wine and local beers.

If you need to top up your walking kit there are 2 outdoor shops, both with bargain rooms. There are craft shops, galleries and clothes shops for men and women. There is a proper hardware shop, an electrical shop and a 2 book shops which sell local books by local authors,as well as holiday reads and walking books/maps.

The Town Hall, at the top of the High Street, hosts craft sales, theatre, events and workshops so keep an eye on the notice boards in the Market Square and outside the Hall.

When you have finished exploring the town take a walk up the moor to explore the remains of the old mine workings (but watch where you're putting your feet). Stroll down to the river and take the challenge of the stepping stones (really watch where you're putting your feet). The church is worth a look, see if you can spot the mice carved into the furniture by the famous Mousey Thompson of Kilburn.

If your feet are tired after a long walk you can take the Pride of the Dales Service 72 or 74 bus back from Bolton Abbey, Burnsall, Hebden or Kettlewell.

Travel a little further afield to try your hand at fishing at Kilsney, there's a shop for the one that got away. Banish your workaday blues with a stress free stroll through the woods, one of the last strongholds of the now rare native red squirrel. Take to the saddle, on four legs or 2 wheels, for a change of pace.

Grassington hosts 2 lively festivals; the Grassington Festival in late spring and the Dickensian Festival in December.
