Things To Do The snow has melted (for now) and the sun is creeping higher each day. Spring flowers are just round the corner.
Grassington has 2 pubs, a hotel with traditional public bar and restaurant and bar. Try Grassington House for great value fine dining. If you fancy rustling up your own cusine you will find everything you need: an the award winning butcher selling local meat and his own sausages; a deli for special treats and a Spar shop. There is an Indian takeaway and a chippie; try some local beer from the off licence to wash it all down. Our favourite day time cafe is the Retreat, vegetarian food prepared with quality ingredients and ethics, but there are plenty of other cafes around the Market Square, back streets and folds. If you need to top up your kit there are 2 outdoor shops, both with bargain rooms. There are craft shops, galleries and clothes shops for men and women. There is a proper hardware shop and an electrical shop and a book shop which sells local books by local authors,as well as holiday reads. The Town Hall, at the top of the High Street, hosts craft sales, theatre, events and workshops so keep an eye on the notice boards in the Market Square and outside the Hall. When you have finished exploring the town (small but perfectly formed) take a walk up the moor to explore the remains of the old mine workings (but watch where you're putting your feet). Stroll down to the river and take the challenge of the stepping stones (really watch where you're putting your feet). The church is worth a look, see if you can spot the mice carved into the furniture by the famous Mousey Thompson of Kilburn. Travel a little further afield to try your hand at fishing at Kilsney, there's a shop for the one that got away. Banish your workaday blues with a stress free stroll through the woods, one of the last strongholds of the now rare native red squirrel. Take to the saddle, on four legs or 2 wheels, for a change of pace. When you're worn out from all this activity, what better than retreating to Oak Cottage where you can relax with a glass of wine or a beer in its cosy living room?
