Knaresborough
Fifteen minutes from Harrogate,
Knaresborough is a small market town with a ruined
medieaval castle with a spectacular view over the
River Nidd and a quaint mixture of old and new buildings
which give the town an old worlde feel. It has riverside
walks, a Wednesday market and Old Mother Shipton’s
Cave and Petrifying Well -England’s oldest
tourist attraction.
Ripon
Twenty minutes from Harrogate,
Ripon is one of Britain’s oldest cities, dating back
to 866 AD. It has a racecourse, medieaval and Georgian
buildings, a magnificent cathedral and the 1100 year old
tradition of the Ripon Hornblower who ‘sets the watch’ each
night to guarantee the city residents safety for the night. A few miles from Ripon is the National Trust’s
Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal World Heritage Site.

Thirty minutes from Harrogate are
two of the peaceful, beautiful Yorkshire Dales Nidderdale, an Area of Outstanding Natural
Beauty has the dramatic and surreal shapes of Brimham Rocks
- a natural adventure playground with panoramic views over
the Dales. Wharfedale has the Bolton Abbey Estate,
owned by the Duke of Devonshire with miles of footpaths
and spectacular riverside scenery open to the public. For
