The branch line was closed to passengers in 1930 but did have passenger excursions at Bank Holidays and the occasional steam special - otherwise the line was used for freight. The final closure to Grassington came through major cuts in 1968. The majority of the line still remains open to the limestone quarry on the Grassington-Skipton road, just short of Linton. Station House was built in
1925, at the height of the expansion of the Threshfield/Grassington
railway line. Station Masters have lived in the house
since it was built. When the line closed in 1968, it was sold by the railway, and is now lived in by the last Station Master's son, Pete, his wife Becky, and
the rest of their family, David and Amy. 
Six schemes
were submitted to Parliament for the railway into the Dales from Skipton or
Gargrave, the first in 1845, the final one in 1889, which was known as the Yorkshire Dales Railway. The first sod was cut on 7th June 1900. The station was opened on 29th July 1902 and originally the railway was intended to be built through Wharfedale to Wensleydale but the company ran out of money at
Grassington.
In 1991 the Bed & Breakfast
room was built as an extension on to the house, with its own shower room, staircase and access to the back door. It is a
twin bedroom, with tea/coffee facilities, easy chairs and television. The views from the window look across to the fells and Grass
Wood, and over to Grassington. Station House is within easy walking distance of very good eating houses, both in Threshfield and Grassington.
The house is very close to both the Yorkshire Dales Cycleway, and the
Dales Way. The walking in the locality is very
extensive and full of interest, from walks along the river Wharfe, to walks across the
fells on either side of Wharfedale, into Littondale, or over the top into
Nidderdale or Malhamdale. It is beautiful in all directions! We have maps and books to help you explore the area at your leisure.
The nearest town is Skipton, 9 miles away, a fine market town,
which has a Castle, and is on the Leeds-Liverpool canal. Harrogate and Ripon are both about 20 miles away.

country is within exploring distance. Grassington is at the heart of Wharfedale, an ideal place to explore both up and down the valley.
