Situated
in the centre of the picturesque village of Langthwaite, Waterfall
View offers a peaceful location from which to explore Arkengarthdale,
a tributary valley of Swaledale and the most northerly dale in the
Yorkshire Dales National Park.
The village has been the setting for many television
programmes and films including James Herriot’s “ All
Creatures Great and Small”, ”A Woman of Substance” and “Century
Falls”. It provides a perfect base for walking, and many
other outdoor activities including fishing, shooting, cycling,
pony trekking, and mountain biking. However if you want a relaxing
break away from it all, Langthwaite provides a peaceful base from
which to explore the Dales, and recharge your batteries.
Nearby lies Langthwaite’s traditional village
pub, The Red Lion, offering real ales and light snacks during opening
hours. Overlooking the village stands the C.B. Inn, which has built
up a reputation for fine food and hospitality. In the larger village
of Reeth (2 miles away) there is a selection of tearooms, pubs, hotels
and small shops.
Other local places of interest include:
- The Georgian town of Richmond (14 miles)
- Barnard Castle (12 miles) home of the Bowes museum and a fine
Norman castle.
- The bustling market town of Leyburn, (10 miles) in neighbouring
Wensleydale.
