Situated in superb locations across the whole of Yorkshire, search for your perfect self-catering holiday accommodation, from cosy cottages for two to spacious converted barns, farmhouses and country manors big enough for the whole family. YorkshireNet is packed with holiday ideas and local information so you can find the perfect holiday cottage in your ideal location.

The Yorkshire Dales is a very popular area, with spectacular landscapes criss-crossed by stone walls, great rivers flowing through the valleys, and spectacular moorland scenery. Each Dale has its own character, and there are cottages and self-catering accommodation in villages, towns and in more remote locations. Access to the southern Dales is through the market town of Skipton, leading to Upper Wharfedale, Grassington and Littondale. Nearby Malhamdale is famous for the limestone amphitheatre of Malham Cove. To the west, the Three Peaks of Inglebrough, Whernside and Penyghent dominate the rugged landscape, accessed from nearby Settle and Ingleton, with Ribblesdale and Dentdale the major valleys. Of the northern Dales, Wensleydale is a broader landscape with its key towns of Hawes and Leyburn. The more intimate Swaledale is famous for its summer meadows alive with colourful flowers, with Arkengarthdale joining the main Dale at Reeth village. Nidderdale is a more lush Dale, centred on the small town of Pateley Bridge. To the east is the spa town of Harrogate and the city of Ripon.

Discover cottages in the North York Moors where heather-clad moorlands provide a stunning backdrop to picturesque red-roofed villages. This National Park is a walker's and cyclist's paradise, with Dalby Forest, Sutton Bank and the Cleveland Way just some of the many routes that can be explored. The pretty town of Pickering, Gateway to The Moors, is famous for its beautiful Saxon church, medieval castle and North Yorkshire Moors Railway, whilst the traditional market town of Thirsk centres around its cobbled market square. Top attractions in the North York Moors include Helmsley Castle, Eden Camp Museum, the World of James Herriot and the Abbeys at Rosedale, Rievaulx and Byland.

To the east of the moors lie the towering cliffs, glorious beaches and tiny fishing villages of the Yorkshire Coast. The coastal resort of Scarborough is packed with traditional seaside attractions and its Blue Flag beach makes it the ideal place for a family cottage holiday. Whitby's dramatic clifftop Abbey inspired the writing of Dracula, and the fishing port's quaint cobbled streets have changed little since the days of its famous son, Captain Cook. Wander the twisting streets and hidden alleyways of Robin Hood's Bay which was a hive of smuggling activity for centuries, or discover the Victorian Spa town of Saltburn and its magnificent pier.

The rolling hills of the Yorkshire Wolds are a great place for walking, with the Yorkshire Wolds Way stretching from the mighty Humber estuary to the traditional seaside resort of Filey. Highlights of the region include Castle Howard, the setting for the TV series Brideshead Revisited, elegant Burton Agnes Hall and the Wolds Way.
