It is named after Sir Titus Salt who built a textile mill and this village on the River Aire. Salts Mill has been renovated to be an art gallery, various shops selling quality books, art supplies, jewellery, antiques, houseares etc., restaurants and cafes. In December 2001, Saltaire was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
