The traditional Victorian Yorkshire Range has been revived by a Yorkshire Dales firm.
In Victorian times the Range was at the centre of family life, providing cooking facilities, hot water and heat. They had all but died out until 20 years ago when Gordon Pickles realized how beautiful and practical the Range could be. He started restoring these ranges, and his Yorkshire Range Company has now recreated and registered their own unique models of original 19th century Ranges.
Models include the RIPON design, made in two widths: 3 feet 6 inches or 3 feet 8 inches, and 4 feet high and 18 inches deep. The LITTLE GEM range is 3 feet 2 inch wide. Each Range is individually hand crafted to meet the customers own requirements, then black leaded if required, to a superb authentic finish, or as an alternative, why not choose matt charcoal finish as shown in the LITTLE GEM photo (below). It can be installed by Gordon himself, or can be fitted by the customer.
Gordon is limited to making approximately a dozen Ranges each year.
The Ranges are made from high quality cast iron with solid brass or cast iron fittings and features, offering a choice of tidy Bettys, oven trays, ashpan, sparkguards, surrounds and towel rails. The Ranges can be supplied with optional surrounds, or in a larger ornate 'farmhouse' style with over mantel and towel rail.
All Yorkshire Ranges are fully flued and functional, and if fitted with a back boiler will provide ample hot water for daily use and are capable of running additional radiators. They are excellent for cooking, due to the cast iron construction, and have the added bonus of a welcoming 'real' fire, radiating heat throughout the house. They run on solid fuel, wood, peat or gas.
The Ranges are extremely efficient, retain more heat, use less fuel, are cleaner and are more easily controllable than most cooking and heating systems, whilst still maintaining the classic old Victorian style.
The Yorkshire Range is an ornate feature putting value on your property and the heart back into your home.
